Dealers often mix fentanyl into drugs like heroin, methamphetamine, and cocaine.[1] They hope to increase profit margins. These practices could also spark addiction.

Treating Fentanyl Addiction at Boca Recovery Center

Life with an addiction to fentanyl is isolating. Treatment at Boca Recovery Center represents a new beginning, filled with support and community. Our providers will get to know you, listen to your story, and design a program that meets you where you are and gets you where you want to go. The following elements might be included in your plan.

Medical Detox for Fentanyl Withdrawal Management

Quitting fentanyl abruptly often leads to relapse. Organizations like the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) recommend medications for that reason.[2] Using pharmaceutical therapies can ease your distress and help you focus on rebuilding your life.

At Boca Recovery Center, we use science-based therapies to help people recover from addiction. If you abuse fentanyl, we will recommend medications like methadone and buprenorphine to help your brain and body adjust to sobriety.

ASAM says the detox venue is as important as the medications used.[2] Boca Recovery Center provides a soothing, supervised environment for this critical part of your recovery. Staff will be available around the clock to ensure all is going well. You’ll have soft bedding, nutritious meals, fluid therapy, and more to help you get sober safely.

Medication-Assisted Treatment

Combining medications and therapy is the most effective way to treat substance use disorders. Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) can also lower your risk of overdose. You’re less likely to relapse, and if you do, the prescriptions can blunt fentanyl’s impact.[3] Boca Recovery Center has used MAT for years to help people overcome the abuse of drugs like fentanyl.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved the following three drugs as MAT options for substances like fentanyl:[4]

  • Methadone: This opioid medication reduces cravings and eases withdrawal symptoms. It must be used at least once daily, and it can only be dispensed by federally registered Opioid Treatment Programs. Brand names include Dolophine and Methadose.
  • Buprenorphine: This partial opioid medication reduces cravings and withdrawal symptoms. It’s available as a take-home medication and a long-lasting injection; either can be prescribed by a qualified doctor. Brand names include Suboxone, Subutex, and Sublocade.
  • Naltrexone: This opioid blocker medication doesn’t ease cravings, but it can render drugs inactive during relapse. A failed attempt to get high could make the next relapse less likely. It’s available as a daily medication or a long-lasting injection; either can be prescribed by a qualified doctor. Brand names include ReVia and Vivitrol.

Our talented treatment team will explain each option to you. We’ll choose the right medication to begin your treatment. As your inpatient program draws to a close, we’ll determine if a switch is necessary. For example, you may use methadone while at the center, but a switch to buprenorphine could make at-home treatment easier. We’ll find an MAT expert near your home and ensure your transition moves smoothly.

Comprehensive Inpatient Rehab Treatment for Fentanyl Abuse

It’s unrealistic to believe that detox services will lead to long-term sobriety.[5] Think of detox as a first step, and consider inpatient care a healthy progression of your treatment program.

In our comprehensive inpatient program for fentanyl, you’ll spend every day working on your fentanyl addiction. Treatment teams will monitor your MAT and ensure you’re adjusting to long-term prescription use. Counselors and therapists will help you learn new ways to cope. At every moment, you’ll be surrounded by talented professionals who want you to succeed and are committed to your success.

All Boca Recovery Center locations are accredited by The Joint Commission and the prospective state’s governing body. Maintaining these accreditations demonstrates our commitment to providing the best, science-based care to every person who comes to us for help.

Therapy

During your stay in inpatient care at Boca Recovery Center, you’ll spend the majority of each day in therapy sessions. Behavioral therapies enhance the effectiveness of your medications, and they can motivate you to stay in treatment longer.[6]

Proven therapy approaches for addiction include the following:[6]

  • Cognitive behavioral therapy: Learn to recognize and avoid situations that increase relapse risks. Develop coping skills to deploy when you can’t avoid your triggers.
  • Motivational enhancement therapy: Strengthen your resolve to stay in treatment and change your life for the better.
  • Family therapy: Address how your drug use has changed your family, and learn how you can rebuild these critical relationships for a healthier future. With help, your family can support your ongoing recovery efforts.

Continued contact with a therapist could be critical to your long-term sobriety. At the end of inpatient care, we’ll connect you with a talented resource in your community to continue therapy on an outpatient basis

Long-Term Recovery From Fentanyl Addiction

Addiction is a chronic condition, meaning that a return to drugs is often part of the recovery process. If you quit treatment too early, relapse is more likely.[6] That’s why Boca Recovery Center offers robust aftercare planning to surround you with support when inpatient care is complete.

Your fentanyl addiction aftercare program might include the following elements:

  • Support groups: Your team could connect you with the Narcotics Anonymous chapter in your community, ensuring you can attend meetings when you need to.[7] If you prefer, we can find secular options, such as SMART Recovery meetings. We’ll help you find a group that feels right.
  • Counseling: We’ll research group sessions, private appointments, and family-based options to help you keep learning and growing.
  • Drug education: If you’d like to keep learning about how fentanyl works and why it changes your brain, we can find drug education classes for you.
  • Vocational training: If employment is a challenge, we can seek jobs training courses to help you get on track. We’ll help you develop tools to find a job and employment that is supportive of your recovery.[8]

Some people use these options while living at home. If your neighborhood poses relapse risks, we can find a sober living home for you. These facilities allow you to live with others also in recovery. These facilities may help you to develop sober habits and strengthen skills, so they can eventually move home again.

If the thought of leaving inpatient care is too frightening, or you’re not quite ready to take that step, we offer intensive outpatient programs. You’ll come to the facility for care almost every day while you practice living independently.
