Norman’s Story

“Before going to treatment at Boca Recovery, my drinking and drug use was spiraling out of control. I would smoke weed every day before work during my breaks and during lunch. I would go home after work and smoke a few more times.

My weekend drinking started to carry over to drinking during some the weekdays. Every time I drink it led to doing cocaine. With cocaine I can not pace myself and continue doing it until it was all gone. I would go into work the next day with only 30 minutes of sleep from the night before. I almost lost my job because I fell asleep at my desk and I reeked of alcohol. I decided to go to treatment as a mitigation tactic so I wouldn’t lose my job.

The staff at Boca recovery were great. They truly cared about ensuring I succeeded in sobriety. I became friends with some of the most incredible people I know who were serious about their sobriety. About a week after being a Boca Recovery that’s when I made a decision to live the rest of my life sober. I listened to all of the stories of other recovering addicts from HNI. I put into action all of the advice that was given to me by the staff and went to PHP after leaving Boca Recovery.

Today I am 13 months sober. I have a stronger relationship with my family and friends. I still keep in touch with friends I have made in treatment. I have one semester left and getting my associates in Electric Transmission System Technology. My tuition is covered by the employer that I have almost lost in my addiction.

My job sends me out to events to represent the company and meet with customers to answer all their questions and help them out with their issues. The company I work for is now a showering me with praise complementing me for the phenomenal work I’ve been doing because customers write in informing them how I was able to help them.

I’ve been promoted to a better position at my job and will be promoted again once I finish this last semester in the fall.

Today I have a clear mind and can proudly hold my head up high. I have a better relationship with myself and living a healthy life style. I enjoy the little things in life. It took hard work, dedication and amazing group of people to get me where I am today. Not everything in my life is perfect but it’s definitely a lot better than where it was 13 months ago.
