Jonathan’s Story

“One year sober today.
A year ago, I wasn’t someone who just needed to cut back or make a few better choices. I was a severe alcoholic, and I was dying.
Getting sober didn’t simply improve my life. It gave me the chance to rebuild it completely.
Over this past year, I have accomplished more than I ever have in any other year of my life—and that’s not even including sobriety itself. I got married, advanced in my career, took on new responsibilities, began working toward professional certifications, and started planning an international move.
But the biggest accomplishment is who I have become.
I didn’t just get my old life back. I reinvented myself into someone I actually like—someone I respect, someone I can depend on, and someone who has a future.
I also want to recognize Boca Recovery because they were a huge part of that transformation. When I first arrived, I was scared. I was trying to control everything because I didn’t know how to let go. Through treatment, I learned to trust the process instead of fighting it. They helped me replace old ways of thinking with healthier ones and gave me the tools and skills to build a meaningful and fulfilling life without alcohol.
The staff truly cared, and that made a lasting impression on me. Many of them had been through addiction and recovery themselves, so when they shared their experiences with me one-on-one, I knew they understood what I was going through. That gave me hope that recovery was possible. Even a year later, they still reach out to see how I’m doing, and that means a lot. It shows that their commitment to helping people doesn’t end when treatment does.
And on a lighter note… the food and all the snacks were great, too!
One year ago, I was dying.
Today, I am living a life I never thought I would have.
One year sober.”
