Military veterans share experiences that most Americans don’t encounter. Some of those experiences are rewarding and become treasured memories but others can cause lifelong trauma. As a veteran you deserve outstanding and attentive healthcare. When it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, that’s the level of care we provide in our veteran drug rehab program in Huntington, Indiana.
Understanding Mental Health and Substance Abuse in Veterans
Did you know that veterans have higher rates of substance use disorder or SUD than the general population? According to the National Institute of Drug Abuse one in 10 veterans who seek care at VA facilities have SUD. There are many potential reasons for this but every veteran is unique. Part of your recovery will be learning and understanding why your SUD developed and how you can maintain your recovery long term.
Mental health and substance use disorder are closely intertwined in the general population and this is the case for veterans as well. In fact, one in three veterans who seek treatment for substance use disorder also have post traumatic stress disorder according to data from the National Center for PTSD.
A study from the University of South Carolina also found that veterans with substance use disorder are three to four times as likely to have depression. These conditions can intermingle in dangerous ways. You might be self treating a mental health condition with drugs and alcohol or your substance use could be creating or worsening a mental health condition. Either way, our goal is to help you create lifelong health and wellness. That’s why mental health and addiction treatment are our priorities at Boca’s veterans rehabilitation center in Huntington.
Opioid Use and Abuse in Veterans
The opioid epidemic has affected families and communities throughout the U.S. in the past decade but it has affected the veteran and military communities too.
Some veterans develop opioid use disorder after needing pain medicine for injuries they received during their service. Others may use opioids to cope with trauma from their service or the time spent away from their families. In any case our Boca Recovery Veterans Recovery Program in Indiana can help.
Our individualized opioid addiction programs combine medication assisted treatment like Suboxone therapy with group therapy, individual therapy and other techniques to put you on the path to long term recovery.

Certain addictions, such as opioid use disorder or alcohol use disorder, benefit from medication-assisted treatment (MAT). FDA-approved medications, such as Suboxone, methadone, and naltrexone, are used to mitigate withdrawal symptoms and cravings, helping people to better resist relapse in recovery.
At Boca Recovery Center in Huntington, we offer MAT for our clients. If it is right for your situation, your medications will be monitored by staff members, and you’ll be properly supported.
A lot of addiction treatment work takes place in group therapy sessions. Every session is led by a mental health and addiction treatment professional, and they employ a variety of approaches, depending on the needs of the group.
Group therapy commonly involves CBT approaches, the use of dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and trauma-informed therapeutic approaches. Clients reflect on their own thought and behavior patterns, their history of trauma, and the place emotions have had in their life. In group sessions, they learn to better process feelings, identify problematic patterns, and develop coping mechanisms to deal with substance abuse triggers.

Boca recovery housing was very comfortable for the time I spent there. The apartment has two bedrooms fully furnished with kitchen appliances and all the necessary items to cook meals every day. It definitely allowed me to transition back to reality very easily as I was attending groups and AA meetings every day. I enjoyed using the gym and basketball they provided. I would recommend to anyone.

I would personally recommend Boca Recovery Center to anyone with loved ones who are struggling with addiction, or even if you are the one struggling yourself. I will go as far as to say that Boca Recovery Center saved my life. Not only getting me away from any substance I was addicted to, but also helped me heal through high quality therapy, along with teaching me how to live a new life sober. Again, I'd recommend this place to ANYONE with the struggle of addiction in your own life or any loved ones.
